National Dialogue on the State of Research Integrity Education
The Association for Practical and Professional Ethics (APPE) held a National Dialogue on the State of Research Integrity Education, November 8 and 9, 2023, at the National Academy of Sciences in Washington, D.C.
To address the existing shortcomings in promoting integrity across the research enterprise, the National Dialogue aims to characterize research integrity efforts to date and to propose strategies to improve accountability within and between vested stakeholders across the research enterprise.
The workshop gathered leading scholars in the field of research integrity education, along with representatives from federal funding agencies, higher education accreditation agencies, professional societies/agencies, research universities, and other members of the research ecosystem to review the current state of knowledge, identify gaps, and make recommendations about the best way to meaningfully engage research institutions and funders in strengthening practices and accountability for the ethical conduct of research over the next decade. Specifically, the group gathered to develop commitments to support and encourage the entire research enterprise to fully engage in their role in creating a system of integrity.
This was an invitation-only event and was not recorded or live streamed. We will share recommendations from the National Dialogue with participants, federal agencies, the research integrity community, and the public in early 2024.
This workshop is sponsored by Arsht Ethics Initiatives at the University of Miami.
